Kaimata Café is an established family owned and operated cafe based in Akaroa. We are a husband and wife team, and with three growing boys we have always known the value of fresh, home-cooked kai. It has been something our family has been able to enjoy together, and now it is time we share our love of cooking with the rest of the world.

In 2002, we bought a farm just outside of Akaroa. Both coming from a farming background we always knew owning a farm was in our future, but our dream was really to open a cafe where we could share our food, sell fresh produce and inspire others to start a clean eating, environmetally friendly lifestyle.

Opening Hours:
Tuesday - Sunday
7am to 3pm

Our Mission

Fresh, sustainable kai is at the heart of our business. We want people to taste the naturally beautiful food that our country has to offer, and reap the rewards of nourishing their body with good food. This is why grow our own organic produce and any ingredients that have to be sourced we prioritise local farmers and growers first. It is our mission to teach people about organic kai and connect to our Māori roots through food and home-cooking.

Our History

Originally the café started out as a weekend market stall which sold fresh home cooked organic kai and coffee. As popularity and demand with the locals grew, the Munro family decided to open their own cafe and call it Kaimata Café which means “Fresh Café” in Māori. Kaimata Café prides itself on being sustainable and environmentally friendly with a focus on selling organic foods made with fresh, high quality and locally sourced ingredients. This aligns with their motto: Whangaihia to tinana ki te kai organic that translates to ‘nourish your body with organic kai’.
